Now Android app users can sing up Facebook messenger without an account on facebook

In the beginning of this month Facebook launched its product which can be accessed by people who do not have a Facebook account. Initially a messenger for Android app has been introduced and later messenger for iOS will be introduced. The messenger can be signed in with just a phone number and name. Now you can also message all those people who have not joined Facebook.
Facebook is introducing this product initially for the Android app users in countries which include Australia, Indonesia, South Africa, Venezuela and India. It will be introduced shortly in the rest of the countries. The date for the launch of messenger for iOS is still not announced. After signing up the messenger, the users can then search the contacts through names. Through this messenger, Facebook will reach larger number of people which will be a challenge for free texting apps like WhatsApp and Pinger. At present the messenger for Android is free and will not show any ads.

It seems that by introducing this messenger, Facebook has accepted that not everyone out there wants to have an account on social networking site. Through this messenger the existing Facebook users can send messages to the non users without spending any money.

This new messenger is expected to bring more signups or reactivation of the previous accounts of Facebook. The fact the Facebook has initially targeted India for its launch indicates that Facebook is still looking for more signups. India has a population of one billion out of which only 65 million uses Facebook.

People can now use the messenger directly without the need of managing profile and friend requests. The messenger can help to attract new people towards making an account on Facebook.

According to Deng, SMS has been in the market since 20 years and it was designed for old phones which do not use features like picture taking, touch screen etc which recent phones have. That is the reason for investing in this product.

Now the Foursquare app users and businesses can also add events to their venues

There is a reason behind everything that we do. We have reasons to select the place where we eat or drink. The reason can be a cute waiter or waitress, the Karaoke night or anything else.
Few days ago, Foursquare announced its decision that the businesses will now be able to add events in their venues. This is a very big step taken by Foursquare as it will help you to look for new places where you can go. You can also inform your friends about where you go and what’s special about that place without having to do any work. One cool feature that is available on this site is that you can look for the events going on at the venue. This feature is available for many things including movies. This will also records the places where you go and the things you are doing.

According to the company, people can see the concert, movies and sporting events in the app of Foursquare and now they can also see and add them to their location. Company further said that now they can also add their arts and crafts events of fundraising events.

This step was important for Foursquare as well as for consumers and businesses. This is a sort of data that the company is gathering about the tendencies of users.

The company is looking to generate more revenue through this new feature. The company has taken a great step and instead of implementing the previous ad models, the company has managed to create its own which will suit the experience of Foursquare. This will prove to be a good decision for Foursquare itself and for its users and businesses.

LinkedIn will kill RSS support on December 19

linkedin logo 520x245 LinkedIn will kill RSS support on December 19

LinkedIn yesterday quietly sent out an email to some of its users announcing that its Network RSS feed will be retired on December 19. The company has thus given a week’s notice for the feature.

For those who have never used it before, the RSS feed allowed users to subscribe to their network updates via an RSS reader. The feed included the latest activity from people in your LinkedIn network, just like the LinkedIn homepage.

There are two main reasons for the feature’s removal. The first is the same one we’ve heard before: LinkedIn says it wants to focus its resources elsewhere (just like Google said when it announced Google Reader’s retirement).

The second isn’t given explicitly, but LinkedIn alludes to it by saying that all updates and content can still be viewed on its website or via its mobile apps. In other words, the company has decided the feature isn’t popular enough to warrant letting users browse content outside its service. Like so many companies before it, LinkedIn wants to keep users on its site.

For reference, here’s the full email:

Dear [redacted],

At LinkedIn, we strive to provide a simple and efficient experience for members so we continually evaluate how our current products and features are being used.

This sometimes means we remove a feature so we can focus our resources on building the best products.

We’ll be retiring the LinkedIn Network RSS Feed on Dec. 19th. All of your LinkedIn updates and content can still be viewed on LinkedIn, or through the LinkedIn mobile app.

Please visit the Help Center for more information about the LinkedIn Network RSS Feed retirement.

Thank you,
LinkedIn

YouTube has launched a Redesign to reduce distraction by placing the videos front and center

Here is the recent news for you regarding YouTube. The creative product team of YouTube was busy working to build a new homepage. The new homepage has a YouTube guide. This guide shows all the recent videos from channels that the customers have subscribed. This guide also recommends you channels that you may love to watch after analyzing your viewing habits. It also shows the videos that your friends are viewing. This new homepage with guide feature is not just for the web browser but it is also for other devices like mobiles, connected TV platforms, Google TV, Playstation 3, iOS and android users.

There were too many complaints regarding the previous design of YouTube. One of the major complaints was that too many things were going on simultaneously. This distracted a lot of people from watching videos. In the new design of YouTube, when you will go to the video page you will see the required content in the front and center whereas all the other things like social sharing features, subscribe button, related metadata, etc will appear below the video.

The video playlists have been moved to the right side of the video. This feature allows people to watch concurrent uninterrupted videos for longer length of time. In the earlier period people used to search the videos and then see them. This generated much of the YouTube traffic. But now YouTube is making efforts to drive the people towards watching multiple related videos.

The new design of YouTube has come after one year of its latest refresh which was done in order to drive the people towards subscribing more video channels. Since the previous year, the company is trying to enhance the video views through channels. These channels are present since the year 2005. This plan of YouTube was successful as more people subscribed the channels during that time. According to YouTube they have above 800 million users per month. During this time they watch 4 billion hours of videos.
